In a recent clarification, Tomorrowland’s spokesperson Debby Wilmsen addressed the swirling rumors about the festival’s expansion to Thailand, confirming that while the idea is being explored, nothing has been finalized. This announcement comes amidst widespread speculation and reports, particularly highlighting comments made by Thai government spokesman Chai Wacharonke.
Tomorrowland’s Exploration in Thailand: A Stage of Due Diligence
According to Wilmsen, the renowned EDM festival, which has its roots in Belgium, is in the preliminary stages of considering a new event in Thailand. This comes after reports, based on Wacharonke’s statements, suggested a confirmed festival in 2026. Wilmsen, however, emphasized to EDM.com that these discussions are part of a broader exploration and due diligence process by the Tomorrowland team.
“In December, the Tomorrowland team was engaged in fruitful discussions with various stakeholders in Thailand, assessing potential locations for the festival,” Wilmsen shared. “We’re thankful for the enthusiasm and support from the Thai community, but it’s crucial to clarify that no official confirmation or agreements have been made as of now.”
Despite the excitement, the festival’s organizers are conducting thorough research to evaluate the feasibility of such a massive undertaking in Thailand. The speculation of a confirmed inaugural festival followed by 10 consecutive editions, as reported by The Japan Times citing Wacharonke, lacks foundation at this moment.
Focusing on Tomorrowland’s Legacy and Potential Expansions
As Tomorrowland gears up for its 20th anniversary celebration in Belgium, the focus remains on this landmark event. However, Wilmsen hinted at the festival’s ongoing interest in new locations, including Thailand, reflecting on the warm reception from Thai authorities and the potential for bringing the festival’s magic to the region.
“Tomorrowland is deeply honored by the interest from Thailand and is earnestly exploring the possibility,” Wilmsen added. “However, it’s important to note that these explorations are part of a feasibility study, and there’s no confirmation of a festival happening at this stage.”
The festival recently announced an expansion to Colombia with a new edition of their CORE offshoot in MedellĂn, indicating their openness to global ventures. The flagship event in Belgium, expected to attract 400,000 attendees, will feature a stellar lineup, including Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, and Hardwell, among other EDM luminaries.
This clarification by Tomorrowland serves as a reminder of the festival’s cautious approach towards expansion and the importance of due diligence in such processes. As the festival continues to explore new horizons, fans worldwide remain eager for official announcements regarding future events.
