Music legends including Donna Summer, Lauryn Hill, and De La Soul have been celebrated with their induction into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame, as reported by DJ Mag through the insights of Martin Guttridge-Hewitt. This honor highlights a diverse range of music, from disco to hip-hop, marking the first additions to the hall since 2021.
The GRAMMY Hall Of Fame’s latest inductees have been unveiled, spotlighting notable disco and hip-hop achievements among others. To be considered for this prestigious recognition, a recording must be at least 25 years old and demonstrate either qualitative or historical significance. This year, ten recordings have been selected to join this elite list.
Highlighted among the inductees are De La Soul’s groundbreaking 1989 album ‘3 Feet High & Rising’ and Lauryn Hill’s critically acclaimed ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’. Additionally, Donna Summer’s 1977 hit single ‘I Feel Love’, a piece renowned for its innovative use of Moog synthesizers, produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, has been recognized for its enduring impact on the music industry.
Other noteworthy additions include the self-titled album from Buena Vista Social Club, ‘Kiss An Angel Good Mornin” by Charley Pride, and ‘Appetite for Destruction’ by Guns N’ Roses, among others. Completing the list is a rare 1922 single, ‘Ory’s Creole Trombone’, by Kid Ory’s Creole Orchestra, underscoring the diverse and rich history of music that the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame seeks to preserve.
These new inductees will be formally added to the GRAMMY Museum’s catalogue in Los Angeles, with a celebration including a gala and concert scheduled at the city’s NOVO Theatre on May 21st. Details regarding tickets and the night’s performers are forthcoming.
In related news, the 66th GRAMMY Awards, held in February, saw Donna Summer, Laurie Anderson, and N.W.A. receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards, with DJ Kool Herc honored with a Trustees Award. These recognitions further underscore the lasting contributions of these artists to the music world.
As the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame continues to honor music’s rich history, the inclusion of these artists and albums ensures the legacy of their groundbreaking work will be celebrated for generations to come.
