In a recent collaboration, Erika De Casier and Shygirl have unveiled the music video for ‘Ex-Girlfriend’, a track from De Casier’s latest album. The premiere of this visually striking video was covered by DJ Mag, highlighting its thematic focus on fashion, fame, and the act of watching and being watched.

According to Martin Guttridge-Hewitt of DJ Mag on 22 March 2024, the ‘Ex-Girlfriend’ video draws inspiration from a 1996 fashion film featuring Kate Moss and directed by Nick Knight, titled ‘The More Visible They Make Me, The More Invisible I Become’. This piece was, in turn, influenced by a Vogue editorial known as ‘Courrèges Edge’.

Directed by Isa Castro-Cota and Tiff Pritchett, the video showcases Erika De Casier in designs by the avant-garde French label Courrèges, echoing the brand’s futuristic aesthetics. This collaboration marks a continuation of the relationship between De Casier and Courrèges, which began when the artist performed at the brand’s event during Copenhagen Fashion Week and extended into a show at Paris Fashion Week.

The song ‘Ex-Girlfriend’ is part of De Casier’s album ‘Still’, released on 21st February. This album follows her 2021 success ‘Sensational’ and features a mix of sleek electronics and nuanced R&B. Other singles from the album include ‘Lucky’ and ‘ice (ft. They Hate Change)’, with contributions from notable artists such as N, Blood Orange, and Nick León, among others.
